Hello Everyone!!
Wow, the time is flying by! The
temperature is dropping, it has been in the 50's (daytime),
30's (at night) lately and the leaves are changing into the colors of
Fall. Lake Placid is especially beautiful as it takes on all the reds,
oranges, yellows, greens, and browns of the fall foliage. There is
nothing quite like it that I have ever seen, even on my mission last
Fall.
This past week on Tuesday, we had a training from Elder Shane M.
Bowen of the Seventy. We had to be in Malone at 7AM because my companion
was accompanying the special musical number, as well as playing all the
other songs of the meeting. It takes us over an hour to get to Malone
which means we ended up getting up that morning at 4:15. Even more crazy
we had a member offer to take us up there and we left at 5:40 from
their home to Malone. The meeting was pretty amazing, he talked about
how we are the children of Israel and we have the primary responsibility
to gather Israel. He also talked about figuring out who we really are
as being a part of the lineage of Israel. It was pretty cool.
On
Wednesday we had a pretty neat experience. We go up to Tupper Lake once a
week (only because of mileage restrictions we don't go more). We were
walking down the main road of TL when we encountered a young woman about
our age, maybe a little older sitting out on her front porch texting on
her phone. As we approach her, I turn and start talking to her and we
tell her that we are missionaries... blah blah blah. She says that she
is actually a member of the church and had just moved to Tupper 2 months
ago and she had been looking for the missionaries. She looked in the
phone book and couldn't find us and she was talking to the missionaries
who taught her when she was investigating the church back in '07 and
they said they would try to find us. Alas, we ended up walking up to
where she was that day and we found her. We found out she was 28, had
just lost her mom about 2 weeks ago and he father 9 months before that.
She definitely wants to meet with us and we will be seeing her possibly
tomorrow. The Spirit totally guided us to meet this lady, my companion
was feeling it as well and so did she. She knew when she saw us walking
towards her that we would stop to talk to her, amazing! Another cool
part of that day, we had just finished visiting with an ill less active
member and were planning on going tracting at a nearby street. Well,
when we parked our car I looked to my left and saw J. (an active
recent convert to the branch who we run into all the time randomly in
Tupper when we are there). So we go over and start talking to her, she
was with someone who we figured out was a previous referral. SO back
story on this is that J's Mom was telling us how she gave this guy
a ride to work on her way down to church one Sunday and how she wanted
to have him meet with missionaries. Well she never gave us an address or
anything for him. Now, as we were talking to J and her friend we
figure out that the guy who is with J and her friend is the very
person J's mom had referred to us. We were standing outside his
home with J and her friend that were with him. So we ended up
contacting a referral that we previously had no way of contacting for
lack of information. Another amazing spirit guided experience in that
same day. We talked to Ja. for awhile and he has a lot of questions
and really wants to learn more about the church. He used to meet with
missionaries (supposedly, but no records of it). So Wednesday was a
pretty good day.
Thursday was fun... we had 3 appointments that took up
from 10am-6pm. Why only 3 appointments? Because each of them were
extenuating chatter boxes, haha. The first two were with members who were
either less active or a recent convert. Those took up all morning into
the early afternoon. That afternoon, we contacted a lady who we had met
previously trying to contact the neighbor who had been taught by
missionaries before. Originally when we met her, she said she wasn't
interested but as we got talking to her, she had questions and we told her
we would return again, so that was this day. She talks a lot! But we
got a good basis of where to start from to teach her more next time. We
gave her a Book of Mormon and she said she would start reading it. So
that's about it for this week, not too shabby and quite busy it went by
really fast. Love you all!
