Hello everyone,
So this week was pretty good. Tuesday
when we went up to Tupper, we met with E. (reactivating) and she had
her daughter's 14 year old babysitter and her friend over for dinner
with us. We taught a simple plan of salvation, since that is where we
were with E. because we were teaching her all the lessons all over
again. H. and her friend were definitely listening but didn't really
ask any questions. We gave each of them their own copy of The Book of Mormon and invited them to church on Sunday. Friends of Members, gots
ta' love it. Our most solid people we are teaching are all friends of
members, aka referrals.
C. who we picked up last week. I forgot to mention that when
we met with him for the first time he was totally wasted. However, when
we met with him a few days later on Wednesday, he was completly sober
and he had actually read up to 1 Nephi 4! Sister La. and I were
amazed that he actually is putting in the effort to read. We re-taught
the restoration since he was sober this time and extended a baptism date
to him for Dec 15. This lesson went even better than the first, and he
said a kneeling closing prayer with us. He really wants to turn his life
around. There is also a kid named N., who used to work at the place
we volunteer at, who might be starting to investigate the gospel soon as
well. He seems to have a lot of potential. We met with him this week
just to get a feel for his background a little more, haven't been able
to teach him a real lesson yet but probably soon.
Saturday, we went over
to a reactivating member's home, Sister B. She has many health
issues. She was the one who we brought in a chair from our apartment for
general conference. We show up to her apartment, and she can't really
walk all that good and we were able to help her with cleaning her feet
so she could go to the doctor's later that day with her daughter. It is
so wonderful to serve, and to see that you have been the means of
bringing relief to another person. We also got in contact with Ev. on Friday and we had planned on dropping her for now, but she asked us to
teach her the stop smoking program and so we went over the next day on
Saturday to teach her the SSP. We didn't feel she was that committed at
first, but perhaps she is much more into it than we thought. After Ev.
we saw J. again at the T's apartment (senior couple) since he
had just got off work and it was much closer than going to Tupper Lake.
He is doing well, very receptive. We are still working on getting him to
church, he was going to come yesterday but he is a
volunteer firefighter and he had to prep for the upcoming storm for
these next few days.
Yesterday was great, we had two investigators at
church. We had planned on 5 coming but 2 came which is still really
great because missionaries haven't been able to get anyone to church for
months and months. C. and H. both came to church and both
loved it and want to come again :). Although there are not any youth in
the branch here so I had to find the YW manual and prepare a lesson on
being a daughter of God for H. which went really well. It aligns
perfectly with God is Our Loving Heavenly Father in the Restoration
lesson. She loved it and wants to come back. We also met with C.
again later that day and he had read up to 1 Nephi 11, he was having a
little trouble with the names of the people and such so we went over
some of what he read and helped with understand the Book of Mormon
better. C. is a true hidden gem, he is amazing at how much he
wants to learn and how committed he is. He has surprised everyone with
his progress. At first, after our first meeting, when we told the elders
about him they had jokingly said "baptism!" Then he actually ends up
having a baptism date the same week, haha. I am just in awe of this
fellow. The worth of every soul truly is great in the eyes of God and
boy what an amazing thing it is to get a glimpse of how much Heavenly
Father loves His children through being a missionary for him. We are
meeting with C. twice a week and he is doing really well. I love
teaching the people in the Adirondacks of the North Country. They are a
unique people and I love it. This truly is a wonderful place. Heavenly
Father is amazing, and keeps blessing this area so greatly I just hope
it keeps going and stays consistent. This area is really coming alive!
Wow, my mind is blown with the miracles that happen here each week and
day. I hope everyone is doing well and don't forget to count your
blessings and thank Heavenly Father for them for all good things come
from Him.
